MGA Commends and Supports Police Efforts

On 13 January 2021, the Court of Magistrates presided by Magistrate Dr C. Galea handed a two-year jail term suspended for four years and a €50,000 fine to a man who pled guilty to, amongst other charges, being involved in the manipulation of a sporting event and the illicit taking of bets.

The Malta Gaming Authority (Authority) commends the work done by the Malta Police Force and its dedication in tackling any form of crime related to the manipulation of sports competitions and illegal gambling. The Authority continuously assists the Malta Police Force with such investigations and will continue to do so in any future cases to the best of its abilities, in order to uphold the value of sports integrity and to ensure that gambling is free from crime.

The Authority would like to take this opportunity to reach out to people who may have any information related to suspicious betting activity, match-fixing, or any other related illegalities in sports and/or illegal gambling to come forward and report to the Sports Integrity Unit on [email protected] and the Investigations Unit on [email protected].
