The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) and the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation on matters relating to consumer affairs and player protection within the gaming sector.
Through the MoU, the MGA and MCCAA will take a more coordinated approach to addressing consumer concerns, complaints and dispute-related matters that intersect their respective remits. The agreement establishes a formal framework for collaboration, communication and the exchange of relevant information, in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. By clarifying channels for cooperation, the MoU will help both Authorities identify the appropriate course of action, provide clearer guidance and support better outcomes for consumers and players.
The agreement strengthens cooperation between the MGA and MCCAA in this area, helping ensure that consumers are directed to the appropriate authority and receive the necessary support.
Commenting on the signing of the MoU, MGA Chief Executive Officer Charles Mizzi said: “Effective player protection requires more than strong regulatory frameworks. It also depends on authorities working together, sharing expertise and ensuring that consumers do not fall through the gaps between their respective remits. This agreement strengthens our ability to do just that, reinforcing our commitment to a regulatory environment where player interests remain firmly at the forefront.”
Commenting on the MoU, MCCAA Executive Chairperson Carmen Ciantar remarked: “The protection of consumers remains at the heart of our work. This agreement formalises an already constructive relationship between the MCCAA and the MGA and provides a clear framework for cooperation that will help ensure that consumer concerns arising within the gaming sector are addressed efficiently and effectively.”
The signing of this MoU marks an important step in strengthening cooperation between the MGA and MCCAA and reinforces their shared commitment to safeguarding the interests of consumers and players.
