Although I have not been at the Authority for long, my experiences during the past months have been many and varied. My role within the MGA, which started off as an Officer within the Research Department, has served as a stepping-stone to my recent promotion as Manager, within the same department. Amongst my various responsibilities and tasks, I have the opportunity to liaise with key stakeholders within the gaming industry, in order to collect and analyse valuable information from this dynamic sector.
The MGA has given me the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in gaming and work on a wide range of projects which definitely contributed to the opportunity to further my career even more. There is something inspiring in working for the MGA, which is such a strong institution within Europe. Hard work is rewarded and there are various opportunities for growth. I am happy with the whole experience so far and I am proud to form part of the MGA.

Whilst I was still reading for my law degree in 2012, the MGA gave me the opportunity to experience the regulator’s approach to gaming law. The MGA afforded me a flexible schedule that allowed me to concentrate on my studies but at the same time gain valuable experience by working 18 hours a week during the University’s academic year and then full-time in summer. Working at the MGA as a student exposed me to various legal, compliance and enforcement functions for both online and land-based gaming, and this eventually prompted me to write my LL.D. thesis on Consumer Protection in the Remote Gaming Industry, based on the first-hand knowledge gained. Two and a half years later, when I graduated as a lawyer, I joined the MGA on a full-time basis, and I have been exposed to training, travelling and opportunities to be part of major and challenging projects that have contributed towards an exciting launch to my career.

My work at the MGA has been challenging and fulfilling. During the four years I have spent working at the Authority, I have held different positions. Each position has brought about different perspectives, challenges and has enriched my overall skill-set. I started off here as a Licensee Relationship Executive. At a later stage, I moved on to a new role as a Systems and Financial Auditor, which allowed me to complement the knowledge and experience that I had gained in the previous position held.
I enjoy working at the MGA in view of the fact that gaming is a dynamic sector that is constantly evolving. Hence the daily tasks, although exhibiting a degree of similarity, will always present their own peculiar challenges or variances which makes life interesting. The technical dimension of the tasks that need to be performed at the Authority drove me to continue investing further in my skill-set, and I have improved my CV by becoming a certified information system auditor. The decision to continue studying mainly stemmed from the fact that I noticed that the challenges presented by the dynamism in the gaming sector require a career-driven person to engage in a life-long learning journey. I must admit that my work at the MGA has enabled me to think outside the box and identify alternative solutions.

I consider my working experience at the Malta Gaming Authority as a positive one. During the initial days of my employment at the Authority, I was given a warm welcome by my colleagues. The environment was a very encouraging one from the start as I was given the chance to be heard, and also the opportunity to discuss and express my views.
As one of the youngest employees, I believe that the MGA has been a good launch to my career where I feel I can be challenged and am able to evolve my knowledge and expertise. Although I have not been at the Authority for long, I have already been given the opportunity to work on major projects. This gave me the possibility to meet different employees at the Authority as well as different stakeholders within the industry, with whom I could collaborate and learn various procedures in detail.
The gaming industry, being such a dynamic sector offers constant new challenges. Being part of the Authority, gives me the possibility to experience how different stakeholders within the industry are innovative in different aspects, making my work a very interesting and engaging one.

During my first months working at the Malta Gaming Authority, I have been given a positive welcome by my colleagues, which has helped me integrate well with my team mates and know that my voice will be heard and recognised. Working for the Authority has given me the opportunity to meet a variety of people coming from all walks of life and the chance to be able to co-ordinate with important stakeholders within the gaming industry.
Furthermore, working at MGA has provided me with the opportunity to learn, progress and give my contribution to the success of the Authority. The duties I have been assigned involve assisting the Authorisations department in the processing of applications, issuing approvals and updating of licences information, tasks which although might be challenging at times, stimulate my knowledge and have evolved my expertise.
The MGA has also given me the opportunity to continue furthering my studies whilst carrying out the duties required from me in my professional role. This has encouraged me to gain more knowledge and develop my skills. The environment at the MGA is one in which there is respect for ideas and where I feel my hard work and knowledge is appreciated and rewarded.

My journey with the Malta Gaming Authority started back in 2015, when I was still reading for my degree in Criminology. The MGA has provided me with the opportunity to give attention to my studies whilst also acquiring vital experience within the Enforcement department, where I was able to amalgamate my knowledge of the scientific study of crime with MGA’s regulatory role of ensuring that the industry is free from criminality, corruption, and money laundering.
In addition, this served an added purpose in that it assisted me in the research study I was carrying out with regards to criminal behaviour in Malta’s remote gaming industry wherein the MGA proved to be a supportive and knowledgeable advisor. Following my graduation, and having further initiated an MSc degree in ‘counter fraud and counter corruption studies’ on a part-time schedule with the University of Portsmouth, I was able to join the MGA on a full-time basis as a Due Diligence Officer where I have been exposed to a professional setting, suitable training and numerous opportunities that continuously nourish my investigative and analytical skills.
My experience with the MGA has given me pride in my role and the satisfaction of being a part of its work force. I am keen on continuing this journey for the years to come.
